British Computer Society Health Informatics Committee (BCS HIC)    www.bcshic.org

The British Computer Society Health Informatics Committee (BCS HIC) is the leading voice in the UK, through its specialist and liaison groups, regarding informatics to support health. By hosting the Open Steps and similar Radical Steps initiatives, it takes up a position to develop a fully representative view, create an environment for thinking outside of the box, stimulate passionate debate and consideration of radical approaches to get the best out of informatics for health.

BCS HIC is a body formed to co-ordinate the work of the BCS Health Informatics Specialist Groups involved in healthcare computing. HIC's role is threefold: to assist these groups; to act for BCS in all aspects of health care matters; and to run its own activities, the most important of which is the annual Healthcare Computing Conference. This is held in spring, and attracts over 1200 delegates and 5000 visitors to the associated exhibition.

The British Computer Society (BCS - www.bcs.org.uk) is the industry body for IT professionals, and a Chartered Engineering Institution for Information Technology (IT). With members in over 100 countries around the world, the BCS is the leading professional and learned Society in the field of computers and information systems.

IMIA Open Source Working Group (IMIA OSWG)     www.chirad.info/imiaoswg

The IMIA Open Source Health Informatics Working Group (OSWG) aims to bring together experts and interested individuals from a wide range of health professions and with a range of interests in the potential application of open source solutions within their domains of expertise. The OSWG will explore the implications of the open source approach for all aspects of IMIA's areas of interest. It will work with other Working and Special Interest Groups to explore the appropriate use of open source solutions and applications. Through close interaction with, and cross-membership with, many other open source groups outside IMIA, the WG will facilitate both the use of other groups' expertise in the areas under consideration, and the input of IMIA views to those other groups' work and discussions.

IMIA Special Interest Group on Nursing Informatics, Open Source Nursing Informatics Working Group (IMIA-NI OSNI)     www.osni.info

The IMIA-NI Open Source Nursing Informatics Working Group (OSNI) aims to bring together experts and interested individuals from nursing and nursing informatics backgrounds and who have a range of interests in the potential application of FLOSS within their domains of expertise. OSNI will work with the main IMIA Open Source Working Group and other organisations and individuals, within and outside IMIA and IMIA-NI, to explore the potential application of open source and free software (including GNU/Linux) within nursing and nursing informatics.

Centre for Health Informatics Research and Development (CHIRAD)    www.chirad.org

CHIRAD aims is to provide an environment for the development of health informatics as an academic subject. It is probably the first virtual R&D centre for health informatics. CHIRAD is an academic institutional member of IMIA. CHIRAD is a company limited by guarantee that is a non-for-profit organisation.

Open Source Health Care Alliance (OSHCA)     www.oshca.net
